Nephi's plans to increase its recreation programs could include expanding the golf course.
A planning draft has been submitted to the city in three documents - a proposal for a Nephi Recreation Center renovation, a proposed Canyon Hills Golf Course expansion, and a master plan document."The council will need to review the documents, list and prioritize the suggestions," said City Administrator Randy McKnight. Public meetings and hearings will be held later.
In Juab County, city, county and church facilities all have extensive investments in recreation.
A county-wide survey was conducted in April through a joint effort by Nephi, Utah Partners in Rural Leadership, Juab Economic Development, and Utah State University extension services.
In the survey, those surveyed strongly supported expansion of baseball facilities, expansion of the Canyon Hills Golf Course, development of tennis facilities, development of walking trails, renovation of the existing Old Gym building, enclosure of the Nephi Swimming Pool, and development of additional parks in Nephi.
Sunrise Engineering Inc., Fillmore, completed the study in January 1995 and submitted the results to Nephi City Council members after completing suggestions and feasibility studies.
"The plan has two full-sized ball fields and a practices field," said City Councilman Richard Paxman.
Councilman Milt Harmon said it was necessary to expand and develop the county recreation plan ideas for the county fairgrounds. "Expansion will be necessary to attract the high school rodeo," said Harmon. In addition, such development would help bring in other large events.
City Council members will continue to discuss the plans Sunrise submitted.
