Ali Akbar Sherkat, age 72, passed away August 21, 1996 in the sky while on his way home to Salt Lake City, Utah.

Born July 25, 1924 in Baku, Azarbijan to Hassan and Ghamar Pasha Sherkat. When he was a child his family was forced by communist take-over to leave his birth place and go to the homeland of parents, Tabriz, Iran, where in 1944, he married Assieh Khorasanchi. Later he moved to Tehran and retired after working for both the City and Department of Vital Statistics. In the 1980's he permanently relocated to the U.S. to be with his children. In spite of great suffering during his courageous battle with cancer he managed to keep his sense of humor. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.Survived by his wife; son, Hassan; daughters, Ghamar (Tourage) Pourpak, Peri (Mahmoud) Loghman-Adham, Sara; grandchildren, Ali and Jasmine; brother, Majid; sisters, Razieh, Roohangiz, Tahereh and Alieh.

Graveside services will be held Friday, Aug. 23, at 10 a.m. at Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 So. Redwood Rd.
