First lady Hillary Rodham Clinton staged a slide show Thursday, playing the role of an American returning from a foreign trip - with a political twist.

Her slides were of her recent trip to fledgling democracies in Central and Eastern Europe, and her audience was made up of Americans of Eastern European descent who are leaders of ethnic community groups across the country.Hillary Clinton said she foresaw "a very bright and successful future in the relationships between our countries" as former communist nations become "full members of the western democratic family."

Poland's first lady, Jolanta Kwasniewska, also attended the presentation at the Commerce Department, along with the ambassadors of Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Estonia, Latvia, the Slovak Republic and Romania. Afterward, the diplomats and American community leaders were invited to a reception at the White House.
