Gordon E. Mickelsen, 78, passed away August 22, 1996 at his home in Sandy.
Born October 29, 1917 in Crescent, Utah to Adolph J. and Ellen Nelson Mickelsen. Married Dorothy M. Mickelsen in the Logan LDS Temple on June 11, 1940. A wonderful, loving husband, father and grandfather, Gordon taught for 33 years in the Jordan School District, retiring from Hillcrest High School as a drafting teacher in 1979. He was an exceptional educator who received several awards, including Utah Teacher of the Year Award in 1969, but more importantly, truly understood, counseled and helped his many students achieve their goals over the years. Before beginning his teaching career, Gordon worked at Hill Field for four years during World War II as head of aero-repair. He then served overseas as a Sgt. Major in the Army Air Corps directly following World War II. He graduated from Utah State University in 1949. Gordon carried on a Mickelsen family tradition by serving in various leadership capacities in the Bell Canyon Water Company for 40 years. He was an active member of the LDS Church and Ordinance Worker in the Jordan River LDS Temple.Survivors: wife, Dorothy; sons, Brent G. (Donna) and Chris; granddaughters, Mary; Denise Enger (Ray) and Adrianne; brothers and sisters, Lee (Thelma), Colorado; Arlene Moore, Virginia; Lorene Mark (James), West Jordan; Larry (JoAnn), Colorado; Reid (Gayle), Washington. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Ray; infant sister, Ingrid.
Funeral services Monday, August 26, 1996, at 1 p.m. in the Dimple Dell Heights Ward, 9880 So. 3100 East in Granite. Friends may call at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, Sunday 6-8 p.m. and Monday at the church from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Interment, Sandy City Cemetery.
