Salt Lake City will allow Horizonte Instruction and Training Center students to use the Franklin Quest Field north parking lot under an agreement adopted Tuesday by the Salt Lake City Board of Education.

Parking will be permitted from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, but staff can apply for permits to allow after-hours parking. During Salt Lake Buzz games, the 40-space lot will be used for stadium parking.Under the rental agreement, the school district will provide litter pickup following games, perform landscaping and provide meeting rooms at Horizonte for training of city employees, community council meetings or other city meetings. The city functions may not displace any scheduled classes.

Horizonte principal James Andersen said use of the parking lot will help reduce the squeeze on existing parking facilities. Enrollment at the alternative high school/training center reached 8,400 students last year.
