Susan McDougal, the Clintons' former Whitewater partner convicted of four felonies, says she is tempted to cooperate with prosecutors, according to a Washington Post report on an ABC interview airing Tuesday night.
The Post reported Tuesday that McDougal says in the interview with "PrimeTime Live" that she is under heavy pressure to cooperate with prosecutors and that they "want anything that can be used against the Clintons."The Post said it was provided with a partial transcript of the interview.
The paper reported that she says in the interview that the Clintons did nothing illegal, but she avoided answering questions about her knowledge of several matters being investigated the special Whitewater prosecutor.
"There is not one thing the independent counsel wouldn't do, wouldn't use, wouldn't try to get me to say, wouldn't try to make me say to hurt them," McDougal said.
Susan McDougal and her ex-husband, James, owned the savings and loan at the center of the Whitewater investigation. Susan McDougal is to begin serving a two-year prison term Sept. 30 after being convicted May 28 of misusing a $300,000 loan obtained in the name of her advertising company.
"It is tempting every time they put the carrot before my eyes," McDougal said of prosecutors' efforts to get her to cooperate.
"It's very tempting. It's tempting when I see my mother crying. When I see my family hurting."
