The landing gear of a Navy jet being towed for repairs collapsed Saturday, killing one mechanic and injuring another.

William Swope, 53, of Palm Coast was crushed to death by the left wing, and Carl Johnson, 26, suffered a broken leg when he was hit by part of the broken landing gear, sheriff's officials said.The Navy EA-6B Prowler was being towed over a small ramp at the Northrop Grumman Corp. plant when the accident happened, authorities said. The nose of the twin-engine jet was being repaired, and the plane's wings were folded up over its top.
