John Wilbur Holmes died September 7, 1996, at the Salt Lake Regional Medical Center.
Born June 13, 1916, in Ottumwa, Iowa. He married Mary L. Edwards on May 8, 1943.During World War II, he served as an officer with Eighth Air Force in Europe.
Holding a B.A. degree from Iowa Wesleyan University and a Masters degree in chemistry from the University of Utah, he retired as manager of Chemical and Industrial Coatings from Bennett's Paint and Glass in 1981. He held several consulting positions in the paint industry and was a past president of the local chapters of the American Chemical Society, and Federation of Paint Technology and National Society of Coatings Technology.
A member of Wasatch Presbyterian Church since 1947, he served in numerous positions in local and regional church organizations.
He is survived by his wife, four siblings, two sons, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Wasatch Presbyterian Church at 12 noon on September 11, 1996. Interment will be in Iowa. Funeral directors, Evans & Early Mortuary.
