The central west African nation of Mali, a former French colony, commemorates the 10th anniversary of the U.S. Space Shuttle Challenger tragedy with the issuance of two souvenir sheets.

One sheet shows four stamps featuring Halley's Comet, the planet Mars, Jupiter and the Moon, and the planet Saturn while in the foreground is the takeoff of the space shuttle. In the border portion of the sheet are portraits of the seven astronauts who died only seconds after takeoff - Michael Smith, Dick Scobee, Ronald McNair, Judy Resnik, Gregory Jarvis, Christa McAlliffe and Ellison Onizuka. The second sheet depicts an image of the ill-fated spacecraft.
