A young couple who police say were desperate for money have been charged with abducting a prominent Oakland County eye doctor, robbing her of $1,300 and then killing her.

Oakland County District Judge James Sheehy entered not guilty pleas Wednesday for Anitra Lynn Coomer and McConnell Adams Jr., both 21, and ordered them held without bond. They were charged in the May death of Dr. Deborah Iverson, 38, who ran an eye care institute in Royal Oak. The doctor disappeared May 16 after leaving her psychiatrist's office in the wealthy suburb of Birmingham. Her body was found the next morning in the back seat of her vehicle. She had been strangled.

Police said both suspects had confessed.
