More than 2,500 Utahns from 63 companies will participate in Junior Achievement of Utah's Bowl-a-thon on Saturday, Jan. 25, an event designed to raise $190,000 for economic education materials that are the core of the JA program.

"JA Bowlathons have increased from $60,000 to almost $200,000 during the last six years. This has enabled JA to increase student participation from 10,000 to 25,000 students in 1,000 classrooms in Utah," said Alyson Evans, senior vice president of JA.The bowling centers participating in the event are Brunswick Sandy Lanes; Bonwood Bowl; Ritz Classic; Rancho Lanes; Hilltop Lanes in Ogden; and Regal Lanes in Provo.

JA is the largest and oldest non-profit partnership between business and education and is funded entirely by businesses. JA officials want to provide economic education-oriented sessions to 50,000 students in 2,000 classrooms by 2000. In addition to the instructions, volunteers from the business community visits schools and tell students about their business ventures.
