Josephine Nielsen Gardner was born in 1916 to Richard and Kisty Larsen Nielsen. They lived in Spring Canyon.
Josephine married her high school sweetheart Ferron Gardner in the Salt Lake Temple on June 10, 1936. She was the finest of wives, she devoted herself to her husband and children. Brent Richard Gardner was their son and Kara Lynn Gardner Heugly (Leo), their daughter. She was the epitome of grandma-hood. She has seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.Brent preceded her in death in 1981 as did Ferron in 1992. Her sister Artell Jewkes, has been her life long friend. Ken Nielsen, her brother, as been a faithful friends an faithful visitor through these last years.
She was an expert seamstress, sewing for many people and keeping her family well dressed. She worked as a tailor and made suits, drapes, quilts, clothing, sleeping bags, dance costumes, and coats. Her grandchildren were lucky recipients of her sewing. She was a fine cook, making sourdough biscuits and pancakes on the coal stove at the cabin. She knew how to work and worked hard all her life.
The last few years she has been blessed to live at Turnquist Retreat where she had been treated with kind and loving care. During this bout with cancer she never complained, not one time. She was sweet and smiling continually. She was an inspiration to her family and those who cared for her. She is loved.
She passed away on Wed., January 22, 1997.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 25th, in the Westwood LDS Ward Chapel, 175 No. 1280 West, Price, Utah. Friends may call at the church between 10-11 a.m.
