Thirteen years after he coached at BYU, Green Bay Packers head coach Mike Holmgren still has kind words for his former boss.
At Thursday's Super Bowl news conference, Holmgren was asked about what he learned from BYU coach LaVell Edwards, who just completed his 25th year as the school's head coach."He was the head coach at BYU when I was there and a long time before - and after," said Holmgren. "He's one of the finest men I ever met and it was a privilege to work for him."
Holmgren, who was the BYU quarterbacks coach in 1982-84, acknowledge that he learned from Edwards. "I think what I try to do now that I got from LaVell is how you treat people, how you treat the staff. How you treat everyone in the organization and the building. He was one of the most generous men that way I ever met. He was a tender individual."
Holmgren continued, "He had his life very much in perspective, as you know he was LDS. His wife, his family, his personal life. I think everyone can learn from people like that."
