Our loving husband, father, and friend Lamar Joseph Larson, age 81, passed away at his home surrounded by loved ones on January 25, 1997 in Taylorsville.
Born November 30, 1915 in Solomanville, Arizona, a son of Moroni M. and Naomi Janet Greenhalgh Larson. He grew up on the San Carlos Indian Reservation, where his father was employed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Married Ethna Marie Webb on September 14, 1940 in Mesa, Arizona; the marriage was later solemnized in the Mesa LDS Temple on May 24, 1941.Active member LDS Church, serving as First Counselor in Bishopric, High priest, Sunday school Superintendent and teacher. Served in the Southern States Mission. Served as President of Lions Club in Salina and President of Rodeo Association. He excelled in calf roping. Worked for U.S. Gypsum Company for 38 years. Played college football at Northern Arizona University. Lamar was a Golden Gloves Boxing Champion and prize fighter. He was a devoted BYU football fan (when they were winning) and farmer and cattleman. He loved animals, the outdoors and sports. He enjoyed people and never met a stranger.
Survived by wife Ethna, Taylorsville; children: Ronald (Dot) Larson, North Logan; Lynda Finch, Providence; Dixie (Preston) Davis, Orem; LaRee (Bob) Leger and Glen Larson, both of Las Vegas, Nevada; Lane (Angela) Larson, Houston, Texas; 31 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sister Lillian Blake, Miami, Arizona; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins. Preceded in death by parents; son-in-law, Ken Finch; brothers, Moroni, Alvin, Tilford, Milan; sisters, Opal, Elaine, Lavona, and Ilene.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 12:30 p.m., at Bennion heights 2nd Ward, 3315 West 5620 South. Friends may call Monday, 6-8 p.m., at McDougal Fuenral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, and Tuesday at the church, one hour prior to services. Interment: Redwood Memorial Estates.
