Utah Power began construction Monday on a new electrical substation on Dimple Dell Road and an underground power line connecting it to an existing station in Draper.
The $2.3 million project is designed to eliminate the threat of electrical overload that led to blackouts last summer in southeastern Sandy and for some residents in the unincorporated county. Utah Power and Sandy have an agreement in which the power company will pay for the substation and the lines while the city will pay $420,000 to have the lines buried. The project is scheduled for completion by July.
