SHARE ALTA GOES COLD AGAINST GRAND ISLAND

Cold shooting proved costly for Alta in the championship game of the Nebraska Prep Classic Saturday.

Nebraska's Grand Island never trailed in turning back the Hawks 61-46 before a vocal crowd of 3,000.The Islanders improved to 6-2 overall. Alta, ranked third in the latest Deseret News Class 5A listing, fell to 5-2.

Jason Richards led the Hawks with 13 points, while Chris Handy chipped in 10.

Alta, a regular participant in this tournament, has a 9-2 record over previous appearances.

Bountiful 75, Evanston, Wyo. 46: Danny Wilbur had six steals, made all six of his field goal attempts and finished with a game-high 19 points as the Braves prevailed.

Grand 66, Green River 52: Sy Harrison erupted for 34 points but the Pirates were unable to overcome a balanced attack by the Red Devils. Adam Englebright led Grand with 14.

Hurricane 46, Valley 42: Despite 16 points from Rob Critchfield, the visiting 3A Tigers had a tough time outlasting the 1A Buffaloes.

Meridian 84, East Carbon 60: Justin Lynn scored 17 points to lead a balanced attack for the Mongooses.

Tabiona 114, Manila 66: Eleven Tigers scored as top-ranked Tabiona overwhelmed the host Mustangs.

Union 58, Richfield 49: Jeff Davenport led all scorers with 24 points as the fifth-ranked Cougars upset the visiting No. 3 Wildcats.

Duchesne 58, Int. Christian 56: Melinda Jenkins paced the Eagles to victory with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Teammate Bonnie Davies added 14 and 10.

Durango, Colo. 45, San Juan 29: The Broncos never recovered after trailing 40-22 at the end of three quarters.

Grand Junction, Colo. 36, Uintah 34: The Utes came up short when the visiting Coloradoans scored with two seconds remaining.

Provo 50, West 29: Natalie Overson netted a game-high 22 points as the Bulldogs made the most of a trip to Salt Lake City.

South Summit 51, Park City 27: Jenny Dees led all scorers with 17 as the Wildcats defeated the Miners.

Union 60, North Sanpete 50: Sarah Colton's team-high 14 points powered the Cougars past the Hawks.
