Death: Ruby Kelly Hansen

Ruby Kelly Hansen, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 1997 in Holladay, Utah.

Ruby was born on July 4, 1913 to Thomas and Lizzie Dale in Salt Lake City, Utah. Orphaned at a young age, she was adopted and raised by Alfred and Elva P. Kelly. She received her education in Nevada and Salt Lake City schools, and graduated from Brigham Young University with Bachelor's Degrees in Music and Elementary Education. While at Brigham Young University, Ruby met and married Glenn W. Hansen on June 6, 1934. He preceded her in death on their thirtieth wedding anniversary, June 6, 1964.Ruby was a marvelous musician and teacher. Through her 42 years of teaching children, she shared her musical talent with her students through organizing choruses in her schools. It was a common sight at chorus performances to see Ruby standing at the piano accompanying and directing the children at the same time.

Some of Ruby's happiest memories were the times she spent as the accompanist for the Deseret News Troubadours in their concerts around the Salt Lake Valley in the 1950's.

Ruby is survived by her daughter, Sherylene Laird (Elden) three grandchildren, Stacy Bernardo (Mike), Shelley Lasky (Jeffrey), Greg Laird, four great-grandchildren, and brother Bruce Kelly (Robyn) Portland, Oregon. Preceded in death by her husband, Glenn W. Hansen, her treasured pet, Toby, and two sisters, Lucille and Roma.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Holladay Healthcare Center for the kindness and loving care they have shown Ruby through her stay.
