Utah delights Scotsman

As a visitor from Scotland making my first trip to the United States, I flew into Salt Lake City last week not really knowing what to expect.

It turned out to be a great experience. The folks were friendly, the weather was great, the scenery was fantastic. (Pity about the roadworks!) The first people I met were Regina and her colleagues who run the Marriott Hotel in Provo, and they could not have been more helpful during my stay. European hotels have a lot to learn.I thought my Scottish accent might have been difficult for people to understand, but this proved to be no real problem. In fact I had less difficulty in being understood in Salt Lake than I occasionally have in certain parts of England! One of the highlights of my stay was a visit on Saturday night to the Hale Centre Theatre to see "Nunsense." Great show! Once my Amex and Visa cards recover from the pounding they took in your malls as I started my Christmas shopping early, I plan to return for a longer visit.

Good luck with the Winter Olympics.
