Prosecutors say S.L. man caused death in ramp crash

Prosecutors believe Miguel Garcia is responsible for the death of a female passenger in the car he was driving.

Garcia was charged with negligent homicide, a class A misdemeanor, Thursday in 3rd District Court. Kelly Rivera, 22, Salt Lake City, was riding with the man when he speed down an offramp Aug. 17.Garcia, 22, Rose Park, tried to take the 700 East ramp from I-80 westbound at a speed of at least 102 mph while attempting to elude a state trooper, prosecutors allege.

He lost control of his car and crashed near the bottom of the ramp. Rivera was ejected and died from head injuries. Tests revealed that Garcia had a blood alcohol of .02 percent, according to the charges.
