Death: Dr. Merrill L. Oldroyd

Merrill L. Oldroyd, M.D. Age 93 of Payson, Utah, passed away, Wednesday, October 8, 1997 at Mountain View Hospital.

He was born May 16, 1904 in Fountain Green, Utah, a son of John Jolley and Mary Morgan Oldroyd.He married Lola Olson, June 6, 1928, she preceded him in death February 16, 1961. He married Janice Loveless Isaac, June 16, 1962 in Payson, Utah.

Merrill graduated from the University of Utah, and went on to graduate from Rush Medical College. He completed his internship at Salt Lake County Hospital. He practiced medicine in Payson for over 43 years and delivered more than 3000 babies. He served as Payson City Physician. He was instrumental, along with Dr. Curtis and Dr. Stewart, in building the old Payson Hospital. He served as President of the Utah County Medical Association, and President of the Payson Hospital Medical Staff. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Commercial Bank, in Payson. He enjoyed sheep ranching. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission to the Eastern States. Dr. Oldroyd's motto and the words he lived by were: `to accomplish anything worthwhile, takes hard work and sacrifice.'

Survivors include his wife Janice, of Payson. A daughter and two sons: Marilyn (Thomas H.) Nielsen, Newport Beach, California; J. Jay (Elizabeth) Oldroyd, M.D., Provo; Mark Lee (Angie) Oldroyd, El Sobrante, California. Three step-children: Kay Marie Hanson, Jay Russell Isaac, and Debra Cranor. eight grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one step great-grandchild. His sister, Jessie Oldroyd, of Fountain Green, Utah. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Services will be Monday, October 13, 1997, 11:00 a.m. in the Payson Park LDS Ward Chapel, 110 South 300 West. Friends may call at the Walker Mortuary, 587 South 100 West, Payson, Sunday, 6-8:00 p.m. or at the church Monday, 10-10:45 a.m. Burial, Payson City Cemetery.
