Austin is Mourning-after middle man for Heat

Isaac Austin, starting at center in place of the injured Alonzo Mourning, scored 23 points as the Miami Heat opened the exhibition season with a 111-102 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday night.

Voshon Lenard and Mark Strick-land each had 17 points, Tim Har-da-way added 16, and P.J. Brown had 13 points and 13 rebounds for the Heat.Allen Iverson, last season's NBA Rookie of the Year, led the 76ers (1-1) with 26 points, and Jerry Stackhouse and Derrick Coleman each had 15.

Miami, which won its first Atlantic Division title last season, opened the preseason with 11 new players on its roster, including free agent Terry Mills, who is still recovering from knee surgery.

Cavaliers 119, T-Wolves 99

At St. Louis, Adrian Caldwell, signed as a free agent Oct. 2, scored 15 points in the Cleveland Cavaliers' exhibition victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Derek Anderson added 13 points, and fellow rookie guard Brevin Knight had 12 points for Cleveland . Tom Gugliotta led Minnesota (1-1) with 20 points.

Spurs 97, Knicks 90

At Syracuse, N.Y., Tim Duncan, the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft, scored 19 points and Will Perdue had 16 points and 12 rebounds as San Antonio beat New York to improve to 2-0 in the preseason.

Chuck Person added 15 points for the Spurs.

Suns 93, Grizzlies 88

At Phoenix, Steve Nash scored 21 points - five in a game-winning 11-3 run - and Cliff Robinson had 17 in Phoenix's victory over Vancouver. Rex Chapman added 13 points, and Antonio McDyess had 11 for Phoenix (2-0).

Nuggets 102, Warriors 88

At Air Force Academy, Colo., Bobby Jackson had 24 points and five assists as Denver beat Golden State to improve to 1-1 in the pre-season. Eric Williams added 16 points and top draft choice Tony Battie had 16 points and 15 rebounds for the Nuggets.

Bucks 94, Kings 86

At Fresno, Calif., Glenn Robinson scored 21 points as Milwaukee opened the exhibition season with a victory over Sacramento. Ray Allen, who had 11 points in the first half for the Bucks, did not play in the second half because of a bruised hip.
