Academy Square's future in hands of W.V. builders

The future of Academy Square now rests with a West Valley construction company.

The City Council Tuesday named Jacobsen Construction as the construction manager/contractor to transform the old Education Building into a new city library. The company stands to make nearly $975,000 on the project, according to the contract. Its general charge: root around in the crumbling building and find ways to save money. If the final cost projection comes in above the $22.6 million, the Academy Square Foundation will have 60 days to raise the difference. Should it fail, the library would not be built and the building would be torn down.
