Contractor will take hit for Redwood flaws

A road construction contractor will take a big hit in the wallet for surface defects found in a 2,000-foot section of Redwood Road.

The Utah Department of Transportation and Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction Co. have reached an agreement that calls for the contractor to take a 42 percent reduction in pay for widening and paving Redwood Road between 6800 and 7000 South.UDOT inspectors found numerous balls of clay embedded in the pavement along the section of road shortly after the contractor completed the work. Wadsworth repaired the defects, at its own cost, and has promised to fix any other problems resulting from the clay balls through next spring.

The entire segment of Redwood Road reconstructed by the contractor, from 6600 to 7800 South, was expected to open today - ahead of schedule.
