Watchdog group releases `Wacky Warning Labels' list

The warning that came with the cardboard sunscreen for car windshields? Don't drive with it in place.

How about the beach towel with a label advising that it shouldn't be used for protection during a hurricane. The winner of the inaugural "Wacky Warning Labels" contest was the warning on the hair dryer - don't use it while sleeping.

Michigan Lawsuit Abuse Watch, a consumer advocacy group, chose the winner.

Most of the questionable labels were probably precautions against lawsuits, executive director Robert Jones said in Tuesday's Detroit Free Press.

Ken Black, owner of a computer software company in Lansing, was nominated the first-place winner. He won $100 and a copy of the book, "The Death of Common Sense: How Law is Suffocating America."
