Death: Merle Anderson

Merle Rolfe Anderson was born on June 19, 1920, in Oakley, Utah.

She was the fifth of six daughters to Charles Arthur and Ethel Louisa Rasmussen Rolfe. She went to grade school in Oakley and graduated from South Summit High School and LDS Seminary in 1938. She attended two and a half years at Brigham Young University. She married Norvel Maben Anderson in the Salt Lake Temple June 11, 1941.They had five children: Val Rolfe Anderson, Ontario, California, Vance Norvel Anderson, Pleasanton, California, and wife Carla; Tonja Lee Anderson Billings, Independence, Missouri, and husband Roger; Charles Jens Anderson, Orem, Utah, and wife Tamara; and Shawn Chadrick Anderson, Provo, Utah and wife Linda; who gave them 23 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her husband and two sisters; Leora Robinson and Mona Liechty.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She held many positions, including Stake Primary president and counselor, Stake Sunday School chorister, Ward Primary chorister, Ward Choir director, visiting teacher, MIA president, and Relief Society president and counselor, for her church.

She worked as manager for the Provo City school lunch at Joaquin Elementary school and Timpanogos Elementary school. She served a mission with her husband to Papua New Guinea for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She also served as an ordinance worker with her husband in the Provo Temple for ten years.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 17, 1997 at 1 p.m. in the Grandview 11th Ward Chapel, 950 West 2150 North, Provo. Friends may call Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State St., in Orem, and also Friday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Grandview chapel. Interment will take place in the Provo City Cemetery.
