Provost at USU not leaving for Mississippi State

Utah State University Provost G. Jay Gogue has been passed over for the presidency of Mississippi State University.

Gogue, who is beginning his third year as USU provost, was one of three finalists for the position.On Thursday morning, Malcom Porters, vice cencellor emeritus of the Universityof Alabama system, was named Mississippi State's new president.

Portera succeeds retiring President donald Zacharias, who has served in the position since 1985. Zacharias, who will step down at the end of they year, is the land grant university's 15th president.

In a previous interview, Gogue said he did not actively seek the job at Mississippi State. "I really wasn't looking. They contacted me and asked me if I'd apply," Gogue said.
