Selleck, journalists agree on curiosity

When it comes to covering celebrities' lives, journalists and actor Tom Selleck agree there's a difference between the need to know and plain old curiosity.

Selleck, who starred in the TV series "Magnum, P.I.," told editors Thursday that the media must question whether public curiosity and public interest are the same when it comes to reporting."I have seen for some time a decline in the overall ethical standards in this area," Selleck said at a panel discussion sponsored by the Freedom Forum, a foundation dedicated to free speech and a free press.

The panel was part of the Associated Press Managing Editors' national conference.
