Schoolchildren and communities throughout the state are gearing up for the 11th annual Ribbon Week, promoting prevention of substance abuse and violence.
The ribbon campaign, in which participants wear red and purple "It's Hot To Not" pledge ribbons, runs through Saturday, Oct. 25.Gov. Mike Leavitt will speak Monday at a 10 a.m. ribbon-cutting at the Capitol.
Other Ribbon Week activities include a Family Fitness Festival at the Ogden River Parkway Saturday, Oct. 18, and the CAMMI award ceremony Wednesday for the best school-designed anti-drug and violence public service announcement.
The Utah Federation for Youth Inc. co-sponsors the event with the PTA, State Division of Substance Abuse and Department of Education.
