WWII memorial funding gets more than `Peanuts'

"Peanuts" cartoonist Charles M. Schulz, a World War II combat veteran, donated $1 million to help make sure D-Day is never forgotten.

Schulz made the gift and has signed on to head fund-raising to help build the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Va., to commemorate the Allied invasion of Normany, France, on June 6, 1944. He called it the most significant day for mankind in modern history."It is an event we should make sure we never forget," Schulz, 74, said Thursday in Santa Rosa, Calif.
