2 killed when N.C. team bus collides with tractor-trailer

A bus carrying a high school volleyball team home from a match collided with a tractor-trailer on a highway in the mountains of western North Carolina, killing two people.

The crash Thursday night on U.S. 64 outside Franklin killed the bus driver, Paul Maliska, 48, and one of his passengers, Carla Edwards, 16, the Highway Patrol said Friday. Both victims were from Hayesville.The tractor-trailer was traveling down a steep hill when it crossed the center line and collided with the bus, Trooper C.D. Jenkins said.
