Lucinda Hastings Weiss, age 89, died October 16, 1997 in Hurricane, Utah.
She was born December 18, 1907 in Hurricane, UT to John Henry and Martha Jepson Hastings. She married Vernon Loy Weiss in Farmington, UT.Lucinda was the second girl to be born in Hurricane, UT. She was raised in Hurricane and lived in Garfield, Magna, then back to Hurricane. Lucinda was an active member in the LDS Church and served a mission to the Gulf States. She had a love of the Book of Mormon and Relief Society. She taught the Gospel Doctrine class and was a visiting teacher. She had a love of music which she passed on to her grandchildren. She knew every hymn by memory. Lucinda had a talent in sewing and was magic with her crocheting. She loved to go for a walk and to dance. She will be remembered for her pies and her good sense of humor. She had a great love for her grandchildren and they were important to her. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by a son, Jack Hastings (Helen) Weiss, West Valley City, UT; a daughter, Lorraine Weiss (Nathan) Tuttle, Magna, UT; 13 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild; two brothers, Pete Hastings, Hurricane, UT; George Hastings, Midvale, UT. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; a daughter, Janis Carrell.
Funeral services will be Monday, October 20, 1997 at 1 p.m. at the Hurricane LDS 9th Ward, 274 South 100 West, Hurricane, UT. Visitations will be Sunday, 7 to 8 p.m. at the Metcalf Hurricane Valley Mortuary, 140 No. Main, Hurricane, UT and Monday, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the chapel prior to services. Interment in the Hurricane City Cemetery under the direction of Metcalf Hurricane Valley Mortuary, 635-2211.
