2 deer hunters are injured on first day of annual hunt

One deer hunter sustained a bullet wound to the arm and another injured his leg in separate incidents on the first day of the annual Utah deer hunt Saturday.

Frank Hutchison, Cedar City, was hunting with some friends in the northeast corner of Iron County when he was shot in the right forearm about 11:30 a.m. It was reported that he accidentally shot himself, a dispatcher said.Paramedics transported him to Valley View Medical Center in Cedar City, where he underwent emergency surgery. He was in stable condition Saturday night.

Hutchison, 67, was hunting with a group of five or six friends at the time of the accident, said his daughter, Aime Hutchison.

Another man suffered an injury to the leg while hunting in the mountains in western Tooele County. Paramedics airlifted him to a Salt Lake area hospital. The man may have broken his leg, a dispatcher said.
