Funeral set for Lowell M. Durham Jr.

A funeral will be held Friday for Lowell M. Durham Jr., 54, businessman, educator and church worker, who died Monday, Sept. 29, 1997, of cancer at University Hospital.

The services for Mr. Durham, who was director of the Obert C. and Grace A. Tanner Humanities Center at the University of Utah and who had been president of ZCMI and Deseret Book Co., will be at noon Friday.The funeral will be in the Olympus Stake Center, 2675 E. 4430 South. Friends may call from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive, and from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Durham received bachelor's and master's degrees in English from the University of Utah and a doctorate in philosophy and English literature from the University of Washington.

He was an associate editor of the New Era magazine for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and worked several years at Deseret Book. He was a member of the board and also served as president.

He worked seven years at ZCMI, where he was vice president of personnel and services, executive vice president and member of the board. In 1985, he was appointed president and chief executive officer.
