Shaq injures muscle in Laker loss

Los Angeles star Shaquille O'Neal aggravated a strained abdominal muscle early in the first quarter of the Lakers' 101-92 exhibition loss to the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday night.

O'Neal, who strained the muscle Oct. 3 in the team's first day of preseason drills, had four points and two rebounds in four minutes.Eric Williams and Bobby Jackson each scored 18 points for the Nuggets (3-3), who outscored the Lakers 25-11 in the third quarter to take a 77-54 lead. Elden Campbell and Kobe Bryant each had 15 for the Lakers (3-2).

Celtics 99, Magic 96

At Orlando, Fla., Antoine Walker had 31 points and 15 rebounds as Boston beat Orlando for its first victory under coach Rick Pitino.

Walker, who scored 21 points in the second half, made a layup and an 18-foot jumper in the final 1:18, and Chris Mills clinched the victory with two free throws with 2.7 seconds remaining.

Mills had 19 points and Ron Mercer scored 16 of his 17 points in the first half for Boston (1-4). Penny Hardaway led Orlando (2-4) with 25 points, and Horace Grant added 16.

Bucks 101, Timberwolves 90

At Des Moines, Iowa, Terrell Brandon scored 17 points and Ervin Johnson had 15 points and 10 rebounds as Milwaukee beat Minnesota to improve to 5-0 in the preseason.

Chris Carr led the Timberwolves (2-4) with 18 points, and Stephon Marbury had 17. Minnesota star Kevin Garnett missed his second straight game because of a bruised left thigh.

Pacers 95, Hornets 83

At Nashville, Tenn., Fred Hoiberg scored 18 points and Antonio Davis had 16 in Indiana's victory over Charlotte. Hoiberg was 8-for-11 from the field, including a 2-for-2 performance 3-point range. Chris Mullin added 15 points for the Pacers (4-2) and Reggie Miller had 14. Glen Rice led the Hornets (2-3) with 19 points.

Rockets 106, Mavericks 97

At Albuquerque, N.M., Matt Maloney scored 14 points as Houston beat Dallas to improve to 4-2 in the preseason. Rockets reserves Rodrick Rhodes, Eddie Johnson and Brent Price each had 12 points. Shawn Bradley led the Mavericks (1-4) with 27 points.

Trail Blazers 107, Warriors 88

At Spokane, Wash., Rasheed Wallace scored 17 points as Portland beat Golden State to drop the Warriors to 0-6 in the preseason. Brian Grant and Jermaine O'Neal each had 14 points for the Trail Blazers (4-2).

Clippers 90, Hawks 79

At Los Angeles, Brent Barry scored all of his 15 points in the third quarter as Los Angeles rallied to beat Atlanta. Eric Piatkowski and Lorenzen Wright each added 14 points for the Clippers (2-4).
