With Halloween fast approaching, I call upon all teachers in Utah to increase their efforts to emphasize the lesson of compassion for animals.
I know it's difficult enough to teach even the basics on your tight school schedules, but in order for children to grow into caring adults, they need to learn empathy for others, too.Teaching children compassion for animals has long-term consequences. In fact, studies show that extreme violence targeting people is invariably preceded by a history of violence against animals. But most children can learn compassion just as easily as they learn cruelty.
Please encourage your students to take particular care of black cats (and black dogs) during the Halloween season and to be kind to animals all year long.
It's the right start toward compassion for their fellow man.
