Bell says he has no interest in vacant Colorado St. AD job

Utah State athletic director Chuck Bell said Thursday he has no interest in the open athletic director job at Colorado State.

CSU athletic director Tom Jurich resigned this week to take the A.D. job at the University of Louisville.Bell spent 14 years at CSU, eight as an assistant basketball coach and six as an associate athletic director in two different stints, beginning in the late 1970s.

"I don't have any interest in going back a third time," he said. "At best it would be a lateral move, both professionally and economically. There's no advantage in a lateral move. We plan on staying here a long time."

Last month Bell's name was linked to the open athletic director job at the University of Cincinnati. A story in the Logan Herald Journal said Cincinnati had Bell's resume, but Bell claims he never initiated contact with the university.

"There are two head-hunting firms out of Dallas and Chicago that provide names for these universities," he said. "My name would have come up from a search firm."

Bell didn't deny he has applied for jobs during his five-year tenure at USU, but he did say he hasn't applied for any in the last year.
