Sites of Halloween frights, fun

Here is a list of haunted houses and related Halloween activities along the Wasatch Front:

Dark Domain Haunted House, Newgate Mall, Ogden. Nightly, except Sundays, through Halloween, 7 to 9:30 p.m. on weeknights and until 11 p.m. on weekends. $1 discount with donation of canned goods. Information: 1-801-621-1161.

Dr. Fright's Goblin Grove, north Springville I-15 exit. Nightly, except Sundays, though Nov. 1, dusk to 10 p.m. on weeknights and until 11 p.m. on weekends. Admission is $6, $4 for children under 12. Admission to Goblin Grove's "Gypsy Village," which includes games and a straw bale maze, is free.

Enchanted Woods at the Treehouse, 2255 B, Ogden City Mall. Non-scary place to get treats and toys, make a craft to take home and see a mini-play ($2, $1 for members), ages 3 to 10, an adult must accompany, takes about an hour to go through the woods. Cost $7 ($5 for members). Oct. 24, 4-7 p.m.; Oct. 25, 1-6 p.m. (optional play at 7 p.m.); Oct. 29, 4-7 p.m.; Oct. 30, 4-7 p.m.; Oct. 31 4-7 p.m.; Nov. 1, 1-2 p.m. Final optional play.

Frightmares at Lagoon, Lagoon Drive, Farmington, Thursdays-Saturdays through Halloween. Lagoon opens at 6 p.m. on week- nights and 1 p.m. on Saturdays. Closing time is 10 p.m. weeknights and 11 p.m. on weekends. Admission is $15, which includes the spook alleys, musical performances and all rides (the Lagoon A Beach water park is closed). Toddlers, 3 and under, are $7. "Spook-a-Boo Alley" is a less frightening experience for little children (6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and 2 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. Saturdays). Halloween Harvest Food Fest, Rainbow Gardens, mouth of Ogden Canyon, Friday, Oct. 24, 1-4 p.m. T. Upton Ramsey will sign his new cookbook; Saturday, Oct. 25, more than a dozen Utah food companies will offer samples of food and great Halloween treats from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 26, Halloween scarecrow contest, winners announced 2 p.m.

Haunted Castle at Utah State Hospital, 1300 E. Center Street, Provo. Proceeds help with recreational therapy. Open Oct. 24, 25 and 27-31, 7:30-10 p.m. Monday-Friday and 7:30-11 p.m. weekends and Halloween. Tickets are $5 at the door, $4 purchased in advance. (801) 344-4226 or 344-4254.

Haunted Old West, Wagonmaster Restaurant, 5400 S. 800 East (Vine Street) next to Murray City Cemetery. High startle, low gore in three party rooms. Through Nov. 1, 7:30-10:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 7:30 p.m.-midnight weekends, closed Sundays. Adults $7.50, children 6-11 $5, under six free. Special non-scary showing for children Saturdays from 5:30-7 p.m. for $2.50.

Haunted Straw Maze, 938 S. 500 East, American Fork (just off the I-15 Pleasant Grove exit). Hundreds of bales of straw stacked 8 feet high covering 2 acres with maze creatures slinking around at night. Daytime hours: 4-7 p.m.; haunting begins at 7:30 p.m. through 10:30 p.m. weeknights; to midnight Fridays and Saturdays. Special group rates: call (801) 756-5149. Admission $5 adults, $3 for children 12 and under.

Haunted Woods at Wheeler Farm, 6351 S. 900 East, Murray, nightly except Sundays through Halloween, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on weeknights and until 10:30 p.m. on weekends. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for children ages 3 to 11. "The Search for the Great Pumpkin," an activity-filled maze for toddlers, is open every afternoon except Sundays. Kiwanis Felt Recreation Center, a Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation facility at 440 S. 900 East, will hold a Halloween carnival, on Friday, Oct. 24, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. There will be games, costume contests, prizes and treats. Call 1-801-538-2064.

Institute of Terror, 300 W. 1300 South, nightly except Sundays through Halloween. Open weeknights from 7 to 10 p.m. and weekends until 11 p.m. Admission is $8, $6 for children under 10; $1 off with a can of food. Information: 1-801-467-8100.

The MAiZE, Thanksgiving Point, Lehi, nightly except Sundays and Tuesdays through Halloween, from 3 to 10 p.m. weeknights, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekends. Admission: $5 for adults, $3 for children 5 to 13, free for children 4 and under.

Maze Mania, Bales of Fun, 13000 South, east frontage road in Draper, largest straw bale maze in the world, shaped like the State of Utah, running contests on Tuesdays & Saturdays, cash prizes. Mondays-Thursdays, 5-10 p.m.; Tuesdays 5-11 p.m.; Fridays 5 p.m.-midnight and Saturdays 10 a.m.-midnight. Admission: $6 adults, $4 ages 5-12, 4 and under, free. Through Nov. 15.

March of Dimes Haunted House, 8245 S. State, nightly except Sundays through Halloween. Open weeknights from 7 to 10 p.m. and weekends until 11 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for children 8 and under; two-for-one coupons available for $1 at local Arctic Circle restaurants. Call 1-801-363-5500.

Nightmare at the Grand, Salt Lake Community College South City campus, 1575 S. State; nightly except Sundays through Halloween, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Admission: $6 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under. Park City Silver Mine Adventure's "Tunnel of Terror," Guardsman Pass, Park City, daily through Nov. 2, from 2 to 10 p.m. on weekdays and Sundays, noon to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
