Stomach ailment forces author to cancel lecture

Stomach trouble kept Maya Angelou out of school.

The acclaimed author had to cancel a college lecture at the last minute Wednesday when her doctor recommended she go to a hospital for tests on recurrent stomach pains, Angelou's publicist said.Hamilton College spokesman Michael DeBraggio said Angelou hopes to reschedule the lecture but it might not happen this academic year.

Angelou, best-selling author of "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings," "Gather Together in My Name," and "The Heart of a Woman," was to speak in Clinton, N.Y., as part of the college's Great Names at Hamilton lecture series.
