LDS Church to rededicate Battalion Monument

The Mormon Battalion Monument on the Utah State Capitol grounds will be re-dedicated Saturday, Nov. 1, at 10:30 a.m. by LDS Church President Gordon B. Hinckley.

The monument was built for $200,000 70 years ago. It was dedicated on May 30, 1927, by President Charles W. Nibley, second counselor in the First Presidency. The monument has now been cleaned and refurbished.The Nov. 1 rededication program will also include remarks by Gov. Mike Leavitt. Modern Mormon Battalion members will also march at the event in full uniform, accompanied by the Utah Fife and Drum Corp.

The monument is on the southeast corner of the Capitol grounds.
