Death: Lora Mae Payne

Our beloved mother, grandmother and friend, Lora Mae Payne, progressed to a better place on October 29, 1997.

Born November 8, 1918 in Crane Hill, Alabama, the seventh of 10 children of John Wesley Calvert and Jennah Odessa Rogers. Married Cash Vernon Stiles, he died September, 1977. Married Claude R. Payne, he died August, 1986. Worked as a professional cook all her career; retired from Bethany Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. Enjoyed cooking, gardening and eating biscuits and gravy.Survived by daughter and son-in-law, Janna and Wayne Mellies, West Jordan; grandchildren, Corey Mault, Amy Mault, Shauna Mellies, and Ryan Mellies; sisters, Dixie (Ivan) Williams; Mrs. Laura Hipp; Viola (Coy) Phillips; and Mrs. Olene Drummond; many nieces and nephews, all of Cullman County, Alabama; "little kids" Jose and Cookie. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Millard, Melton, Avery and Ellis Calvert and her sweet Beau.

Special thanks to Dr. Max Lundberg and his staff for their loving care throughout Lora's long ordeal. The family is also especially grateful to Nicole, who took wonderful loving care of Lora as her long-time home health aide and brightened Lora's darkest days.

At her request, Lora was cremated and there will be no funeral services. Friends are invited to an open house on Saturday, November 1, 1997 from 4-7 p.m. at home, 2999 West 6685 South.
