Bible society leader promises more distribution

The general secretary-elect of the world's biggest Bible organization, United Bible Societies (UBS), has promised that under his leadership the organization will develop new ways to distribute the Scriptures.

"The biggest challenge (for UBS) is to provide the Scriptures in a variety of formats - audio, video, CD-ROM, cartoons and graphic format," Fergus Macdonald, age 61, told ENI from Edinburgh, where since 1981 he has held the position of general secretary of the National Bible Society of Scotland (NBSS). Macdonald is a minister of the Free Church of Scotland (Presbyterian). He also stressed that distribution of the Bible was not enough. UBS researched the use of the Bible to ensure that it was read and listened to, and that it was useful to churches and their congregations, for both individual reading and in groups.
