Yocum's last-play field goal lifts Northridge over Cottonwood

Brian Yocum's 25-yard field goal on the last play of the game gave Northridge a thrilling 20-17 victory over Cottonwood in a Region 1 game Friday.

Yocum's field goal capped a 10-point fourth-quarter rally for the Knights, who tied the game at 17 on a 4-yard touchdown run by Kevin Bell earlier in the period.The come-from-behind win for the Knights (5-1, 3-1) solidified their hold on second place in the region standings and knocked the Colts (3-3, 1-2) into the middle of the pack.

Region 1

Clearfield 30, Viewmont 20: Scott Jones ground out 151 yards rushing on 19 carries and scored the go-ahead touchdown in the third quarter as the Falcons soared past the Vikings.

Layton 35, Davis 19: Mike Bird rushed for 172 yards and two TDs, and Brady Nelson added two TDs and 110 yards rushing on just three carries in a Lancer victory.

Region 2

Taylorsville 49, West Jordan 26: The Warriors cruised to a big home win over the Jaguars.

Granger 40, Kearns 14: Fahu Tahi racked up 297 yards on just 13 carries and scored the first five touchdowns of the game to lead the Lancers easily past the Cougars.

Region 4

Bonneville 15, Fremont 7: Mason Unck's 15-yard interception return for a TD with less than a minute to play gave the Lakers the victory.

Mountain Crest 18, Roy 8: The Mustangs came back from an 8-0 deficit to pin a loss on the Royals. Roy's Kirk Nelson had six catches for 110 yards in the loss.

Box Elder 48, Sky View 19: The Bees hit the road and stung the Bobcats for a big victory.

Weber 22, Logan 21: Kyle Hess recorded 10 tackles, two interceptions and a forced fumble in the Warriors' victory. Logan's Robbie Haas completed 18 passes for 255 yards and two TDs.

Region 5

Murray 35, West 28: The Spartans used touchdown runs by five different players to earn a win over the Panthers.

East 38, Woods Cross 24: Takim Agbor rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns on just nine carries for the Leopards as they jumped out early and cruised past the Wildcats.

Olympus 25, Judge 0: Brad Hiatt completed touchdown passes of 38 and 80 yards in leading the Titans to a blanking of the Bulldogs.

Region 6

Springville 23, Payson 17: Rallying back from a 17-14 deficit, the Red Devils scored the game's final nine points to knock off the Lions.

Region 7

Morgan 50, Granite 12: Jake Little's 3-yard TD run in the second quarter broke open a 12-12 game and the Trojans marched on to a win over the Farmers. Morgan's defense limited Granite to just 106 yards of total offense.

Ben Lomond 26, Bear River 3: Emmett White went over the 1,100-yard rushing mark with a 211-yard performance for the Scots in a win over the Bears. White scored on runs of 28, 47 and 11 yards for Ben Lomond.

Ogden 28, Tooele 27: Randy Williams two-yard touchdown run and the subsequent extra point gave the Tigers a close home victory over the Buffs. Blake Moore passed for one TD and ran for another for Ogden.

Region 8

North Sanpete 21, Carbon 7: Dalen Johnson rushed for 124 yards and one TD for the Hawks as they soared past the Dinos.

Emery 23, Delta 18: Tim Justice caught five passes for 118 yards and one TD as the Spartans grabbed the region title by handing the Rabbits their first loss of the year. Benny Grimm added 156 rushing yards and two TDs for Emery.

Region 9

Canyon View 13, Hurricane 6: The Falcons earned their first victory in school history by knocking off the Tigers. Canyon View's defense recorded six interceptions for the game.

Cedar City 31, Dixie 3: Matt Cardon ran for one touchdown and threw three touchdown passes for the Redmen as they romped past the Flyers.

Snow Canyon 35, Pine View 0: John Hafen recorded 172 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 26 carries and the Warriors amassed 474 yards of total offense in rolling past the Panthers.

Region 10

Lehi 38, Park City 7: Braden Cooper passed for three touchdowns for the Pioneers, who took a 24-0 lead after the first quarter and cruised past the Miners.

Union 45, Wasatch 27: David Thacker caught three TD passes, including the first and last scores of the game, and the Cougars never trailed in their victory over the Wasps.

Region 11

Beaver 19, Milford 18: The Beavers earned a tough road win over the Tigers, who failed on a go-ahead two-point attempt late in the fourth quarter.

Enterprise 42, South Sevier 8: The Wolves scored the first 28 points of the game and were never threatened in a home win over the Rams.

Kanab 37, North Sevier 6: Jim Barnes rushed for 160 yards and one touchdown on 14 carries for the Cowboys as they rode past the Wolves.

Millard 61, Parowan 19: The Eagles racked up 610 yards of total offense and took a 55-0 lead before allowing the Rams to get on the board. Brothers Jake and Dane Stephenson connected on four touchdown passes for Millard.

Region 12

Grantsville 30, North Summit 13: Alan Mouritsen scored five touchdowns for the Cowboys, including two in the second half that pulled them away from the Braves.

Manti 25, Gunnison 7: The Templars turned three first-half turnovers by the Bulldogs into three TD passes by Kenny Cox in picking up the road victory. Joey Callister had six receptions for 91 yards and a TD for Manti.

Juab 47, South Summit 0: Josh Park passed for three scores and ran for two more in leading the unbeaten Wasps to a shutout victory over the Wildcats.

Region 13

San Juan 40, Altamont 0: Brian Bradford grounded out 189 yards rushing and three touchdowns in helping the Broncos blank the Long Horns.

Grand 35, Duchesne 8: Neil Adams surpassed the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season with a 189-yard effort for the Red Devils in their win over the Eagles. Trenton Packard completed 11 passes for 189 yards and four TDs for Grand, three of which went to Kalen Higton.

Nonregion

Skyline 55, Copper Hills 0: Ryan Livigne rushed for 96 yards and one touchdown on seven carries as the Eagles had little problem in hammering the Grizzlies.

Uintah 41, Richfield 7: Adam Madsen threw for 280 yards and two touchdowns and ran six yards for another score as the Utes rolled past the Wildcats.

Rich 49, Westside, Idaho 32: Matt Balch racked up 264 rushing yards and two TDs, while teammate Zane Groll added 219 yards and two more TDs as the Rebels rolled to a win.

Bountiful 38, Timpanogos 6: Zach Jacobs found his way to the end zone four times to lead the Braves to a victory in a game played Thursday.

Volleyball

Region 13

San Juan def. Duchesne 15-1, 13-15, 16-14: The top-ranked Broncos rallied back from a 14-11 deficit in the third game to squeak past the Eagles. Sheila Nielsen and Shanna Mullens each had five blocks for Duchesne.
