Colorado congressman says he will not seek re-election

Democratic Rep. David Skaggs, saying he lacks "fire in the belly," has decided he won't run for the Senate and won't seek re-election to his House seat.

Skaggs, first elected to Congress in 1986, had been the only Democrat to officially announce plans to try to unseat Republican Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell. But Dottie Lamm, wife of former Colorado Gov. Richard Lamm, is considering a bid for the Democratic nomination next year. That contributed to his decision to get out of the race, Skaggs said.
