Death: Raymond Earl Smith, Jr.

Our beloved husband, dad, grandpa, brother and dear friend, died of cancer at home on October 5, 1997.

Born May 9, 1927, to Raymond and Ruby (Underwood) Smith in Salt Lake City, Utah. He married Dorothy Sargetis October 24, 1949, in Elko, NV. They were later married in the Greek Orthodox Church. He worked for Souvall Bros. as the General Manager of the toy department for many years. He left there to go into the remodeling business to do what he loved best. He had such a talent for working with his hands. He most enjoyed the outdoors, especially when he was working in his beautiful yard or at his cabin at Defa's Ranch. His landscape creations were admired by all. He was thoughtful, considerate and dearly loved. He will truly be missed.

Love you, Ray. Love you, Dad. Thanks for all you have done. We'll miss you.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Linda (Randy) Carlisle; and his son, Mike; three grandchildren, Tyler, Shantel and Bryce; brothers, Fred (Lucy) Smith, Keith (Barbara) Smith; sisters, Dianna (Steve) Holbrook, Shirley (Mel) Eldredge, Genny (Tony) Neff; plus many nephews and nieces. Special thanks to Peggy Gunn, his niece who was there when he really needed her. He was also very close to Ernie and Ann Nelson, and Jim and Edie Housley.

We express our sincere appreciation to Dr. Tom Cloward and special nurse, Mark Empey.

Services will be Wednesday, October 8, at 12 noon at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 279 West 300 South. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Deseret Mortuary, 36 East 700 South.
