`Home Improvement' star has a lot to smile about

ABC put its money where its ratings are.

Tim Allen, the star of the network's top-rated "Home Improvement" series, has plenty to smile about. He will be paid a record $1.25 million per episode next season, Daily Variety said Monday. That tops Jerry Seinfeld, who now makes $1 million per episode for NBC's "Seinfeld."

The increase from Allen's current $750,000 per episode could make him the highest-paid sitcom actor in television, the trade paper said. But Seinfeld hasn't decided on another season and his salary could be negotiated higher.

Allen is in his seventh season on "Home Improvement" and has made films for ABC's parent company, Disney.
