Nellie Vandenakker Johnson, age 98, passed away Saturday, October 4, 1997 in Bountiful, Utah.
She was born August 9, 1899 at Smithfield, Utah, the daughter of Alberdiena Waaseur and Arie K. Vankenakker. She had 8 brothers and sisters. Moved to Grace, Idaho at the age of 3 and lived there all of her life. Married Leo N. Johnson, August 13, 1919. She was the editor for the Grace newspaper for 62 years, corresponding for the Salt Lake Tribune and Idaho State Journal. Owned and operated a beauty shop. She contributed to the social, business and cultural life in Grace, Idaho.She received many honors throughout her life. Active member of the LDS Church and served in many capacities.
She is survived by her three children, Katherine (M.J.) Eschler, Dale, Lapriel (Richard) Allred; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandson, Douglas Eschler and daughter-in-law, Gloria Johnson and seven brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 10, 1997 at 1 p.m. at the Grace LDS ward chapel, Grace, Idaho, where friends may call at the church Thursday evening from 6 -8 p.m. and again Friday morning from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Interment-Grace Idaho.
