Elder Peterson stable after Sept. 30 accident

Elder Andrew W. Peterson, 50, an LDS Church general authority who was injured Sept. 30 in an accident near a family cabin in Parleys Canyon, remained in serious but stable condition Tuesday at University Hospital.

On Monday, physicians performed a tracheotomy on Elder Peterson, a member of the Quorum of the Seventy and president of the church's Mexico North Area, to enable him to breathe easier. He is still dependent on a ventilator, said Michael R. Otterson, area relations director for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
