Special Olympics gets a record $120,000 gift

The Utah Special Olympics received its largest single donation ever Thursday.

ShopKo chief executive officer Dale P. Kramer gave Utah officials more than $120,000 in a ceremony Thursday morning, proceeds from the business' 18th annual Charity Golf Classic.The golf tournament, held in Green Bay, Wis., raised more than $1 million for Special Olympics across the country.

The money was distributed by the numbers of ShopKo stores in each state, including 15 in Utah. The money will be allocated to communities in which the stores reside, said Special Olympics spokeswoman Lyn Rees.

The Utah Special Olympics serves about 1,500 athletes and has about 4,000 volunteers.
