The Utah Tibetan Association and the Utah Tibet Support Group are presenting a special screening of the film "Seven Years in Tibet," as well as a before-screening reception, on Friday, Oct. 10.
The film, which stars Brad Pitt, is a dramatization of the adventures of Austrian mountaineer Heinrich Harrer, who escaped from a British prisoner-of-war camp in India during World War II and made a torturous journey over the Himalayas into Tibet, where he befriended the young Dalai Lama.Former Tibetan cabinet member Tenzin N. Tethong, who served as an on-set consultant for the film, will be the featured guest at the reception, which will be held at 5 p.m. at Benihana of Tokyo, 165 S. West Temple. Other entertainment will include a performance of the Tibetan "circle dance," featuring participants in traditional Tibetan attire. The film premiere will be held at 7 p.m. at the Cineplex Odeon Trolley Crossroads Plaza Cinemas, 50 S. Main.
