Viewmont outkicks Skyline to claim Region 1 soccer title

In the battle for the Region 1 championship, Viewmont got two goals each from Missy Daniels and Brittany Harlan to stay on top of the prep soccer rankings at 11-1, winning 4-2 at Skyline (9-3) Wednesday.

In other games Wednesday:

Region 1

Layton 3, Cottonwood 2 (SO): Kim Fitzgerald scored the tying goal, and the Lancers pulled out a big win to improve to 3-9.

Northridge 6, Clearfield 2: Amy Kofoed had three goals while Ashley Fowler, Anne Marie Valentine and Tiffany Swenson each scored.

Region 2

Kearns 5, Copper Hills 2: The Cougars beat up on the Grizzlies to finish the season at 5-7.

West Jordan 2, Taylorsville 0: Crystal Nunez and Elishia Miltenberger scored to keep the Jags in a first-place tie with Bingham, but the Miners earn the first seed.

Region 3

Brighton 3, Hillcrest 0: Sara Buie scored once and Jordan Sleight had two goals to wrap up the region title.

Jordan 1, Timpanogos 0: Tressa Larsen scored on a penalty kick in the second half to lift the Beetdiggers to a 6-6 record.

Mountain View 5, Orem 3: The Bruins opened up a 4-1 halftime lead and held on for the win to lock up third place in the region.

Region 9

Snow Canyon 4, Canyon View 1: Laurel Faylor had three goals to help the Warriors clinch the region crown with a 9-1 record.

Dixie 1, Pine View 0: Katherine Huddleson scored the game's lone goal.


Region 8

Provo def. Lone Peak 15-3, 15-10: Angela Lobendahn pounded out 15 kills and Jenny Butler added five more to lead the second-ranked Bulldogs to victory.

Pleasant Grove def. Payson 15-9, 15-5: The Vikings earned a much-needed road win over the Lions.

Timpview def. Spanish Fork: The Thunderbirds maintained their grip on second place in the region with a win over the Dons.

Springville def. American Fork 15-11, 15-2: A strong team effort by the Red Devils kept the host Cavemen winless in region play.

Region 11

North Sevier def. Parowan 15-10, 15-13: Danielle Andreason tallied five kills and Crystal Shaheen added seven blocks as the Wolves ravaged the Rams.

Enterprise def. Kanab 15-1, 15-10: The Wolves hit the road and came away big winners over the Cowboys.

South Sevier def. Beaver 15-6, 15-11: Amy Gay had seven blocks and Liz Brown and Reagan Roberts each had four kills as the Rams topped the Beavers.

Region 16

Manila def. Tabiona 15-11, 15-3: Lindsey Guest tallied eight kills and four aces to lead the Mustangs past the Tigers.


Hillcrest def. ICS 15-10, 19-17: Danielle Mahfood had eight kills and Liz Hill added four aces for the Lions but it wasn't enough as they fell to the Huskies.
